We are always happy to speak to classes, departments, groups, and at conferences about the work of the Medical Evidence Project.
For general audiences, we can speak to the problem of bad science infecting medical guidelines and what that means for patients, doctors, and policymakers. We can provide case studies to illustrate the problems, how we find them, and what can be done about them.
For specialized audiences, we are happy to delve into the nitty-gritty of forensic meta-analysis including our methods and results. These seminars can range from a general academic level to an assumed knowledge of graduate-level statistics.
If you are interested in extending such an invitation, here are some considerations:
- For any in-person appearances, we require reasonable travel and accommodation expenses. For budgeting purposes, our leadership is based on the East Coast of the U.S.
- Because our work requires resources – and speaking opportunities require our principals taking vacation days from their regular jobs – we prioritize speaking engagements that can provide an honorarium or other fee. Typically these range from $1,000 to $5,000, with the lower end for virtual talks. Our preference is to have them paid directly to our nonprofit parent organization, The Center for Scientific Integrity, but if need be they can be paid to us individually so that we can donate them. We request that when your institution is unable to make payments to the Center that the fee take the additional administrative and tax burdens to our principals into account. We are happy to speak to more than one group in a particular location so that they can pool resources.
- We are able to give a limited number of presentations without a fee and we prioritize nonprofits whose missions align with ours.
